STREETS FLOODED.
GALE AT AUCKLAND. TORRENTIAL SHOWERS FALL. AUCKLAND 1 , January 8. A strong north-easterly gale has been raging, and still continues. Torrential showers have fallen at intervals, causing street flooding. Heavy seas ran in the harbour all day, several small craft being driven ashore. One or two were smashed to pieces. Damage is anticipated in unsheltered market gardens and orchards. Campers at holiday resorts are having an unpleasant time; but the Seventh Day Adventist camp on the Avondale racecourse has weathered the storm well.
