CABINET MEETS.
GENERAL POSITION DISCUSSED. ’SUB-COMMITTEES APPOINTED. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. The Cabinet assembled to-day for the first real working session, during the course of which it plans to formulate and set in motion its new policy. There was a full muster of Ministers. Mr J. A. Lee (Parliamentary Under-Sec-retary to the Prime Minister) was present. In an interview at the luncheon adjournment, the Prime Minister (the Hon. M. J. Savage) stated that the morning had been devoted chiefly to a formal round-table discussion of the general position, after which subcommittees of the Cabinet were appointed to deal with such matters as finance, transport, industrial questions and wages (including relief wages). Mr Savage said that these committees would most likely sit at night and would report to the full Cabinet, which would meet daily until Friday, by which time lie hoped to be able to give a preliminary outline of the Government’s proposals. The most important committee is that of Finance, the personnel of which is Messrs Savage, Nash, Fraser, Lee and Mason.
