DOMINION PRODUCE. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated January 4 from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow Spot market quiet during the holidays; prices unchanged except beef, sweet and/or mixed, 32s to 365. Peas—Maples: Poor demand; prices have declined. No. 1 N.Z. afloat offered 50s; buyers not interested. New crop A grade Tasmanian Feb-March shipment sold at from 46s to 46s 6d. Blues: Market quiet. New crop Tasmanian Feb-March shipment offered at beginning of December £lO 15s. Buyers not interested. Nominal value is £lO. GRAIN AND PRODUCE. CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS. CHRISTCHURCH, January 6. Provided the weather holds, excellent grain crops are anticipated this season. Wheat, oats and barley are looking particularly healthy, there being little smut and rust showing on the wheat. In the Ellesmere district record crops are expected. Some oats have already been cut, and it seems from the samples that the crop will be very good. It only needs good weather now to enable the grain to fill out. Threshing of oats should commence about the end of this week and opening quotations should be in the region of Is 8d or Is 9d. Australian Algerians are selling very cheaply in the North Island at present, and local prices will have to be brought down to meet the competition. FROZEN MEAT TRADE. Messrs J. T. Lambs; Weaker values are ruling owing to lack of demand. Wethers: There is a better inquiry for light weights. . Ewes: The market is quiet but firm. Beef: Trade is slow. Pork: The market is quiet and unchanged. ~ Trade generally is affected by the holidays. DAIRY PRODUCE IN LONDON. Fat sheep, few of which were yarded, were selling at values not quite so good as at the morning sale at Pleasant-Point.
