WOMAN ARRESTED
CHARGE OF THEFT. BURGLARY LAST NIGHT. ACCUSED IS REMANDED. Charged with having committed a theft in a dwelling in the western part of the Ashburton Borough, a woman appeared before Mr W. Patterson, J.P., at the Ashburton Magistrate's Court this afternoon. This was the sequel of an arrest made by the police as a result of a burglary last night. Accused was Edna May Smith, a domestic, aged 22, and residing in Short Street, Ashburton. She was arrested at 8.30 o'clock last evenitng. She was charged with breaking and entering by day the dwelling house of John Wauchop' Strachan, in Wills Street, yesterday, and committing l^ieft. The remand was asked for by Sergeant L. T. Moore, of Christchurch. Accused, who is a married woman, made no objection, and the remand was made until January 17.
Bail was allowed on a personal surety of £25, and one surety of £25, a condition being that she report to the police daily.
