DISTRESS IN GERMANY.
TWELVE MILLION SEEK RELIEF. FINAINOIAL CHAOS GROWING. (United Press Association— Copyright.) LONDON, Jan. 6. The Berlin correspondent of the "News Chronicle" says that in spite of the Nazi leaders' attempts to create an impression of tranquility and contentment. Heir Hilgenfeldt (head of the relief organisation), admitted in a broadcast speech that 12,500,000 needy people were seeking assistance from the relief funds. The newspapers paint a rosy picture of a trade boom which they claim has begun, but the financial and economic muddle is growing. The Government, declaring that the money is needed for armaments, has refused to assist the railways, which have for years been approaching insolvency. Discontent about the shortage of butter and food is spreading.
