FLYING-BOAT MISHAP.
SUBMERGED OBJECT STRUCK. (United Press Association—Copyright.) SAN FRANCISCO, January 6. Alter being recently forced back by mid-Pacific storms, the Pan-American Airways China Clipper flying-boat tonight again attempted to inaugurate the San Francisco to China air service.
Released from her mooring in the San Francisco air base, the heavily laden clipper began to taxi on the shallow estuary water, but struck a submerged obstacle with terrific force. The commander immediately ordered a return to the air base, and the management, announcing that it would adhere to its policy of safety being of paramount importance, instructed that the Clipper should be beached to undergo an exhaustive examination.
