COUNTY CENTRES
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
RAKAIA. Members of the committee of the Rakaia sub-branch of the Munket Society spent a pleasant afternoon at the home of Mrs Hopwood. The guest of honour was the president (Mrs Henderson), who will shortly leave the district to live in Christchurch. Two competitions were held, and musical items were enjoyed. Both competitions were won by Mrs Oolgan. For the committee, Miss E. M. Stewart presented Mrs Henderson with a silver hot water jug. In making the presentation Miss Stewart expressed the regret that members felt at the departure of Mrs Henderson, and wished her every happiness in the future. STAVE LEY, December was a dry month up till the 29th, 0n1y,105 points having fallen. However, on the last days of the month 198 points fell, bringing the total to 303 points and giving a much-needed freshing to pastures. In December last year only 195 points fell. The total fall for the year was 40.-58 inches, compared with 45.87 inches for 1934 and 43.25 for the previous year, and an average of 43.29 for 10 years; but the average has a tendency, it seems, to drop with the recent dry years. Mr S. T.
