NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS RECORD ENTRY FOR SOUTH ISLAND. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The New Zealand bowling championship tournament opened this morning. The entry is a. record for the South Island, and 21 city and suburban greens are in use. Though light misty rain fell before 9 o'clock, the greens needed only a little sun to liven them up. Sectional play in the singles began this morning. ASHBURTON COMPETITORS. The Ashburton Bowling Club is represented at the New Zealand tournament by W. H. Higgins, H. Colquhoun, S. Madden and W. It. Featherston in the rinks. E. S. Chambers and W. Hedges will represent the Allenton Club in the pairs, while W. Acton i(Allenton) will play in a rink.
