A GAMING HOUSE
BIG RAID IN WELLINGTON. ELEVEN MEN FINED £2 EACH. ALLEGED ASSISTANTS REMANDED (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. A police raid on a large scale was carried out early this morning, on premises known as the New Century drib, in Courtenay Place. All the Wellington detective staff took part, and 36 arrests were made. Eleven men pleaded guilty in the Court to-day to having been found on the premises. Three who were charged with having assisted in the running of the establishment were remanded to appear on Monday, when charges against 22 others at present on bail will be heard. Those who pleaded guilty to-day were each fined £2, with costs 10s. Detective-Sergeant L. Re veil, who prosecuted, said that when the detectives entered gaming was in progress, the men playing hazards, and a large quantity of gaming material was seized.
