The Imperial Airways liner, City of Khartoum, was wrecked in the Mediterranean last evening. H.M.S. Brilliant picked up the pilot, Captain Wilson, who was the only survivor of thirteen aboard-—nine passengers and a crew of four. Imperial Airways issues the following list of passengers of •' the City of Khartoum, with reserve Captain R. Mason: A. J. Buckman, W. G. Wellstead, A. L. Garrett, Mr Rastall, Mrs A. F. Horsman, Miss Eckford, all British; C. Luke (American), and Tartaglione (Italian). Captain Mason arid Mr Garrett were en route to Australia, The other passengers were variously booked for Egypt, Iraq and India. This is the worst Imperial Airways disaster since 15 were killed in the City of Liverpool in Belgium in 1933. Pilot Wilson was in the water seven hours before he was picked up. He was almost unconscious when rescued and is too ill to discuss the accident. The crash occurred live or ten minutes before the plane should have descended, toward sunset. It was a calm evening with a calm sea. It is now learned that 6801bs of mail were aboard, but it is not known yet whether it was destined for Australia and New Zealand.
