THE WEATHER.
HOT SPELL CONTINUES. A further high temperature was experienced in Ashburton yesterday, the maximum in the shade reaching 83.2 degrees. This is the lowest temperature for the last four days. The night was also warm, the minimum temperature being 59.8 degrees. The sun shone brightly from a cloudless sky this morning, while there was a north-easterly, breeze. The barometer has fallen slightly, pressure at 9 o’clock this morning being 29.81 inches. The shade temperature at 2 p.m. was 86 degrees. TO-DAY'S FORECAST. (Per Press Ansociation.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: — General inference: Though still high to the north and north-east, pressure has fallen considerably over the New Zealand area since yesterday. A depression is apparently developing over the Tasman Sea. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — Moderate but increasing northerly to north-easterly winds. Weather fair to fine and warm to hot. Seas rather rough in Cook Strait, elsewhere slight to moderate.
