EARLY MORNING FIRE.
UNOCCUPIED STABLES BURNED. BLAZE IN BURNETT STREET. Fire early this morning destroyed three old stables, owned by Bullock and Company, and situated in a block of outhouses behind premises in Burnett Street between the Arcade and Reid and Gray, Ltd.’s. The Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade received the call about 5.35 a.m., and found that the fire had been burning in old rubbish in the stables for some time. The stables were not occupied, and were destroyed, but the brigade was able to prevent the fire spreading to adjoining sheds occupied by Reid and Gray, Ltd., containing a saw-bench. There was no insurance on the stables. The cause of the outbreak is not known.
