BOXING DAY MEETINGS. Several Ashburton competitors entered for cycling events at the Doyleston Athletic Club’s sports yesterday. A notable success was that of C. Gluestein, who won the three miles South Island Cycling Championship, and was in the final of three other events. Details of Ashburton competitors’ performances are:— Half-mile—C. Gluestein (55yds) 1. Final, C. Gluestein 1. Time, lmin. 5 4-ssecs. One mile—Third heat, C. Gluestein (90yds) 1. Final, Gluestein 2. One and a-half miles.—First heat, D. J. O’Reilly (Rakaia) 130yds, 4; second heat, Gluestein (110yds) 1. Final, Gluestein 3. Women’s half-mile—J. Newlove (scr) 2. > South Island Championship (three miles).—C. Gluestein, 1; D. J. O’Reilly 3. Time, 7min. 17 l-ssec. Three competitors finished. Three miles.—First heat, C. Gluestein 2. The champion standing chop of Canterbury, competed for at the Oxford Sports Association meeting yesterday, was won by C. Pableeheque _ (Methven) for the fourth time. His time was 42 seconds. With 35' seconds handicap ho also won the first heat in the 14in. poplar log underhand chop, and was third in the final of this event. Pableeheque won the putting the shot event.
