MENACING CLOUDS.

He said: “We have reached Christmas under menacing clouds. The situation in the last few days has been not only not promising, but threatening.” Germany apparently wished to impose a sort of Christianity described as practical pan-Christianity. lliese Christianities were monstrous, Christian only in name, and fighting true Christianity. “We have not abandoned hope. That is not only a necessity but a duty,” the Pope said. Ho also issued an encyclical on the duties of the priesthood, enjoining members to strive for the highest ideals of holiness. The office of. priest was not for things human, however important, but for. things divine and eternal.
