BABY NOT CLAIMED.

RECOGNITION OF PHOTOGRAPH. SAID TO BE FROM WEST COAST. (Special to the “Guardian.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. It is possible that the mystery surrounding the baby boy, who was found in Woolworth’s store on Friday evening will soon be solved. Residents of Greymouth saw a photograph of the child published in a Christchurch newspaper and they are certain that they know liis identity. His Christian name, they say, is Gordon. The photograph was recognised by the proprietor of a hotel in # Greymouth. He says that the child stayed with him for about six months, and a member of his family says that she helped to knit the jumper he was wearing when, found. Moreover, some other Greymouth people have come forward to say that they put the child on the train for Christchurch on Friday morning. According to the statement of tho hotel proprietor, a woman with two children, a boy and a girl, came to his house about six months ago. They were brought by a man who is engaged in gold boring on the West Coast and the man introduced the woman as his brother’s wife. A few weeks ago the man and the woman left his house and took up private board in Greymouth. The woman left Greymouth for Christchurch by train on Friday morning, and it is thought that site was going to her home in the south. She, took the two children with her and the younger of these, the hoy, is said to be the child who was found in Woolworths’ store on . Friday evening. The other persons who have recognised the child Jive at Cobden. They say that the child stayed with them while the mother was away from the West Coast and that they took it down to her on the Christchurch train on Friday morning. The mother of the child is said to be about 26 years of age. No inquiry for the child has yet been received in Christchurch.
