A MEDITERRANEAN CRUISE.

Significance is attached to an order for the French Atlantic Fleet, normally based at Brest, to cruise in African waters in January. It is officially explained that the order was (given because the fleet wanted more favourable weather for its annual exercises, but according to the Paris correspondent of the “Daily Herald” it is interpreted in some quarters as a political gesture with international implications. M. Pietri (Minister for Marine), who, like many Corsicans, is known to be hostile to Italy, with doubtful enthusiasm for M. Laval’s policy, is mentioned as among M. Laval’s possible successors.
