Britain is.faced with the prospect of the coldest Christmas for half a century. Skating is already in full swing on (London ponds and roads throughout! Britain are ice-bound. Deep snow covers the North of England, while Scotland is in the grip of the coldest winter for 70 years. Many villages are unable to obtain food owing to. the roads being impassable and the lochs being frozen. The cold, however, is heightening rather than depressing spirits. The West End stores are crowded with happy shoppers, and it should bo one of the busiest Christmases tor years. , . •*"— 1
