DR. ADA PATERSON’S ACTIVITIES ABROAD. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, December 23. Investigation into modern development in child welfare were carried out by Dr. Ada Paterson during a nine months’ visit abroad. She was one of the Government delegates at the International Labour Conference at Geneva, and afterwards spent a considerable time in England 1 where, she says, great progress has been made generally in child welfare work. The question of nutrition was receiving a great deal of attention. She visited’ the Rowett Institute in Aberdeen, of which Sir John Orr is the director. In Switzerland she visited the Roller Institute at Lausanne, where sunlight treatment for delicate children is one of the principal features. The provision of clean and hygienic homes lor the workers was a great feature of building activity throughout England. Slum areas in many places were being wiped out. Alillions of meals were provided free to school children, or in some eases at a small charge, and the school medical authorities had power to oi'der free meals, free milk, and in some cases cod liver oil.
