ENTERTAINMENTS

ST. JAMES THEATRE. "STUDENT’S ROMANCE." "Student’s Romance,’’ a play adapted from the operetta, “ I Lost My Heart in Heidleberg,” is the chief attraction at tho- St. James Theatre, where it will have its final screening this evening. A particular feature of this film, and one that will appeal to all who like the better class music, is the singing of a number of stirring songs by a large male chorus. The singing is not all of the lusty type, for there are several delightfully melodious love songs which are ideally suited to the voices of the chief players, Crete Natyler and Patric Knowles. The picture is preceded by a very entertaining programme of short features, including one of particular New Zealand interest. MAJESTIC THEATRE. To those for whom tho particularly gruesome appeals, entertainment in plenty is provided in the "Bride of Frankenstein,’’ showing finally to-night at the Majestic Theatre. The story opens where the original Frankenstein ended—Hans, the father of the little gill killed by the Monster, is poking around in the ashes where the monster was supposedly burned to death. He falls into a great pit and finds himself almost in the arms of the hideous creature, who has escaped death by falling into tho same well. The monster immediately lives up to his reputation by drowning Hans and his wife. NOVELTY EVENING. The Hakatere Sports Club is combining for this meeting with the Ashburton Motor-Cycle Club, a decision that should give much greater scope and variety to the programme, as members of tlie MotorOyele Club will stage a number of thrilling stunts. Sports events for the children will be a feature of the afternoon and there will bo dancing, boxing, wrestling events and a baby show, while several side-shows will be on the ground.
