THE ASHBURTON CLUB. PROGRESS OF COMPETITIONS. Good progress is being made with the club competitions and the majority of matches have been played up to date. Some very good games have been played. Results last week were:—• Champion Singles. First Life—Second round: McEachen beat W. R. Lane; Colquhoun beat Dakers. Second Life—First round: Cockroft beat Christmas; Higgins heat Mitchell. Champion Pairs. First Life—Second round: Cockroft and Mactier beat Dickenson and A. Lane. Second Life—Second round: Dickenson and Lane beat Mitchell and S'awle; Dunn and Christmas beat Tulloch and Minogue. Club Pailrs. First Life—Second round: Dakers and Higgins beat Guthrie and Featherston; Bowden and Dunlop heat Russell and Christmas. Second Life—First round: McCrostie and Smljbh (s) beat Gilmour and Sawle. Colts’ Singles. Second Life—First round : Briscoe beat Lamb. Holiday Fixtures. A progressive pairs tournament will be played on Boxing Day, starting at 9.45 a.m. As this is an open tournament it is expected there will be a full
green of visiting and local bowlers. The open pairs tournament to be held on New Year’s Day has been well supported. Twenty entries have been received. It is intended to use both greens, and play will start at 9.30 a.m. The draw for the first round is as follows:—Giles and partner (Temuka) v. SYDENHAM. | Two rinks from the Sydenham Bowling Club visited Methven on Saturday, the result of the match being a draw.
