Sensational rescues were effected in heavy seas off Sydney beaches yesterday. ... At Bronte a man whom life-savers were bringing ashore collapsed and died in the surf. At Curl Curl life-savers did not wait to put on their costumes but donned their belts naked when a one-armed youth was carried for 100 yards out. Of seven life-savers who went to rescue the crew of a capsized surf-boat a quarter of a mile off Deewhys only three succeeded in getting past e harrier of Dumpers.
