CRISIS IN GREECE

CABINET OPPOSES THE KING. POLITICAL AMNESTY ISSUE. United Press Association— Copyright) ATHENS, Nov. 28. The King is showing a strong hand in dealing with the crisis caused by members of the Cabinet, stiong 5 objecting to the amnesty decree in the form approved by his Majesty. General Condylis stated the Cabinet s views, and mentioned also the names of seyoral senior officers, wTio threaten to resign, whereupon King George summoned General Papagos (Minister for War), who, it is understood, vouched for the loyalty of the army while expressing misgivings about ,the prospect of several hundred pardoned officers re-entering the service. In the meantime M. Constantine Demerdjis was approached indirectly and asked if he was prepared to form a neutral government to proclaim tiie amnesty and hold elections. He appears to have expressed willingness, provided the attitude of the army is clarified. General Papagos was again closeted with the King this evening. 'Demonstrators are attempting to bring pressure on the King. M lien General Condylis left the palace, his supporters shouted: “Long live Condylis. Down with the amnesty." These manifestations do not afieet the position of the King, who is winning popular support for his courageous stand for the amnesty, which will enable the Republican leaders to participate in the political life of the country. The King, during the day’s conversations, threatened, to leave the country if the opposition persists. It is expected that M. Demerdjis will form an emergency Cabinet to-morrow. FULL AMNESTY GRANTED. (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) ATHENS, November 29. The full amnesty demanded by the King will be granted. M. Demerdjis is forming a Cabinet.
