' RAKAIA. 'The fortnightly meeting of the Rakaia Independent Order of Oddfel-l-owgs’ Lodge washeld in the lodge hall. Bro. H..CJ. Preston, D.D.‘G.’M.‘, assisted by the district officers, installed the folldwing oflicers:——N.G., Bro. S. C. Smith; V.G-., Bro. C. C‘. Swaney; treasurer, Bro. 0. Shannon, , elective secretary, P.‘G-., Bro. G. H. Morrison. After the installation ceremony the visitors were entertained at a euchre tournament, the visitors having a decisive win. Supper was served. The month-1y meeting of the Rakaia Women’s Institute was held in St. Mark’s Sehoo-lroom on Tuesday afternoon, the-president (Mrs Nicol) presiding. It «\"as'dccided that the: money received to purchase the Connolly trephy be spent on a. dinner waggon. The secretary reported that a. good start had: been made in establishingw. building fund, and an account had been opened in the {Past Ofiice Savings Bank. The social section of the meet-' ing, which was'arranged by the junior members of the institute, consisted of folk dancing and competitions, and items were given by Miss M. Ashford and Miss Edna‘ Kidd (songs), Miss E. M. Stewart (piano solo). Competitions resulted as follow :-—Date_ scones: Mrs G. Shannon 1, Mrs 'Colgan 2, Mrs Coatsworth 3. Christmas gift not costing more than ls 6d: Mrs Coa-tswo-rth 1, Mrs S. Hardy 2, Mrs Zieglar 3. Bloom: Mrs S. Hardy 1, Mrs Coatsworth 2, Mrs G. Shannon 3. Man’s buttonhole: Mrs Coatsworth 1, Mrs G. Shannon 2, .Mrs Zieglar 3. Lady’s spray: Mrs S. Hardy 1, Mrs Coatsworth 2, Mrs Zieglar 3. The hostesses were the junior members. The next meeting will he held. on Tuesday, De—cember 12, and Willi be the “old identitie-s’ ” afternoon. ' MAYFIELD. The monthly meeting of the VVomen’s Institute was held on \Vednesday afternoon, Mrs iD. J. Morrow presiding. There was a good attendance despite the inclement weather. It was decided to order a numlger of calendars from the Wellington Federation. Mrs Dunstan. gave a. report on the recent meeting in Ashburton. Mrs Fooks gave a demonstration on cooking with a storage heat electric range, and demon‘sfrated the uses of an electric refrigerator. Mrs Fooks was accorded a vote of thanks and presented with a bouquet by Shirley Murdoch. The sales table in aid of the health camp campaign was well patronised. There was a. good exhibit of novel cookery. The competitions resulted :-——Mixed flowers: Mrs G. Murdoch 1, Mrs Hewson 2, Mrs Dunstan ,3. Bloom: Mrs G. B. Murdoch 1, Mrs C. Sewell 2, Mrs iAustin 3. The hostesses were Mrs S. \Johnstone, Mrs A. Murdoch, Miss N. Goldsmith and Miss M. Paterson.
