TRUE LIBERALISM
STATEMENT BY MR FORBES. (Per Press Association.) ‘ - , WANG'ANU'I, Nov. ’l3. ' Referring-‘ to a charge that he] has deserted the Liberal party and its principles, the Prime Minister in his speech here last night said: “I have been a Liberal all my life, and I say one. of the things that distinguished a. Liberal from other parties _possib-ly was that Liberals were prepared to do things necessary for the good of the cOuntry. They placed their country first. . “Although we had been fighting politically as different parties for many years, when the Reform and United parties agreed to form the Coalition Government, I said ‘This is a time when we must show our Liberalism.’ I maintain that my decision was true Li.beralism.”' (Applause). , , As the Prime Minister went on to detail and defend the Government’s drastic measures, there was much banter, with occasional derisive comment, but the Mayorvintervened, putting the audience on its honour. This appeal was effective, and. Mr Forbes won up plause by asserting that no- one who belonged to and loved a country like this could fail to be anxious to do something to help it out of its difliculties. ' .
