QUESTION OF FURTHER SEARCH- ‘ AUSTRALIAN ’PLANE MAY GO. i (United Press Association~Copyright) CANBERRA, November 13. Air Commodore Sidney Smith, who is in charge of the Royal Air Force ‘machines which have been searching ‘for Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, and Mr T. .I’ethybridge, has sent a cablegram to the Australian Government, saying that he will gfire up the search to-morrow night. Mr R. A. Parkhill, Minister for Defence, who announced this, said that it was now proposed to send an aeroplane from Australia .to continue the search if the authorities at Singapore approved. If the Australian aeroplane is sent, its crew will probably be Captain ‘l’. G. Taylor, an old colleague 'of Sir Charles, and Mr J; W. S. Stannage, who is manager of Sir Charles’s Australian enterprises. The cost, Mr Parkhill said, would be about £2OOO. Of this the Commonwealth Government would give £IOOO, the New. South Wales Government £SOO, and prominent citizens had profnised the remainder. The. twin—engined Wackett Gannet aeroplane would probably be used. , Air Commodore Sidney Sr'nith‘ said in his cablegram that by to-morrow all possible areas other than inland jungle would have been thoroughly searched by eight Royal Air Force machines. Eyery island on every section of the route Sir Charles intended to take has already been searched (by the’ flyingboats, which are going toward Singapore on' the final .- part of, their task, It is felt in iSingapore that the machine must be either in the dense jungle or in the Bay of Bengal. In either case- there would be little hope.
