STEAMED 1,000,000 MILES. On the arrival at Southampton recently from the Channels Islands of the Southern Railway Company’s steamer the Isle of Jersey, Captain F. W. Holt, the master of the ship, and commodore of the company’s Southampton fleet, ended, "by his retirement, a remarkable record.
During 44 years at sea he. has steamed over 1,000,000 miles; travelled five times round the world under sail in his apprentice days; made over 100 crossings of the Atlantic, and crossed the English Channel nearly 8000 times. During the war he ran almost every night between Southampton and Havre.
