MID-CANTERBURY SEAT.

THE DEMOCRAT CANDIDATE.

MR WOODS AT ASHBURTON EAST

Mr W. H. Woods, the Democrat candidate, addressed his first meeting of Ashburton electors last evening, when he spoke to a fairly good attendance of people at the Hampstead Memorial Han. Mr* W. S. Kerr presided. After answering a number of questions at the close of his address, Mr Woods was accorded a vote of thanks on the motion of Mr H. Money.

MR HERRING AT DUNSANDEL.

The Labour candidate, Mr H. E. Herring, addressed 105 electors at Dunsandel last evening, Mr J. H. Skinner presiding. A motion of thanks, moved by Mr C. Sheate, was carried.

MR CARR’S CAMPAIGN.

Mr James Carr, the National candidate, addressed about 400 people at Methven last evening, and was given a good hearing. Mr C. A. Campion presided. Mr Carr was asked a number of questions, and, on the motion of Messrs C. C. Winn and J. R. Dalton, was given a vote of thanks.

Mr Carr addressed a well-attended meeting of employees at Lake Coleridge at noon on Monday, when lie was warmly received. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded him. At 6.45 o’clock, Mr Carr addressed a further meeting at Whitecliffs, Mr Gilmore presiding. At the conclusion of the meeting a unanimous vote of thanks was passed. The same evening Mr Carr spout? at the Glen Roy Hall, where Mr Hiatt presided. Mr Carr severely criticised the Labour and Democrat policies. Many questions were asked, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Carr.

THE TEMUKA ELECTORATE. MR BURNETT AT RUAPUNA. There was a large attendance at a meeting in the Ruapuna Hall when Mr T. D. Burnett, Nationalist candidate for Temuka, spoke. The chairman was Mr G. W. Ross. A vote of thanks was accorded the speaker on the motion of Messrs J. Moore and T, B. Bennett.

Smith) announced to-day that the Unemployment Board had decided that Scheme 5 workers shall not be required to work on the afternoon of Wednesday 27 (polling day). The men will he paid for time as though they were working. So far as men working full time for standard rates on jobs subsidised by the Board are concerned, tlie question of their being given time off will be at the discretion of the employing bodies. If such men arc allowed time off the Board’s subsidy will be paid as usual.
