MAORI NAMES
UNION COMPANY’S NEW SHIPS. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, November 12. In accordance with its practice, the Union Steam Ship Company ci New Zealand, Ltd., has chosen Maori names for the three ships now being constructed' for delivery next year. The 10,000-ton liner for the transTasman service will be_ named Aw atea, meaning “broad daylight.” lor the 3900*-ton motor-ship, designed for the carriage of fresli fruit in the Auckland-Fiji-Tonga-Samoa trade, the name Matua, meaning “parent,” has been selected. „ The motor-ship of 2400 tons loi the intercolonial cargo trade will be called Kauri, a name borne for many years by a former cargo steamer of the company.
