Although Tancred, Jamieson and Bartle have been disqualified for 12 months, Country Party has been disqualified only for the Batman Stakes, not for a year as was at first reported. The stewards stated that bets on the Batman Stakes would not be affected by their decision. The newspapers comment on the unusual. course adopted in disqualifying the gelding for the race only and not for a period, but they explain that this is quite legitimate under the Australian Rules of Racing. If the appeals of Tancred, Jamieson and Bartle are unsuccessful, Bustard will be awarded first prize in tlie Batman Stakes, Gay Sheik second, and Gay 'Circle third.

Country Party did not race as a two-year-old. Ho liad had only two starts prior to the Batman Stakes.
