INTOXICATED IN CAR

MAN FINED AND DELICEN&ED. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, Nov. 11. “It is useless for counsel to try to persuade this Court that when a man gets intoxicated in charge of a dangerous machine like a motor oar, he should be dealt with leniently,” said the Magistrate (Mr E. D. Mosley), when dealing with the case of an .mroxicated driver to-day. “In face of a record of deaths last year, 182, from motor accidents, something drastic will have to be done by the Courts. It is useless to persuade the Court that it should be other than drastic. When you come to think of the loss that the country sustains through motor accidents, it is tremendous. It will have to be modified in some manner by either legislation or the Courts.” The defendant in the case, a. salesman, was fined £8 and his license suspended for 28 days.
