ROAD BOARDS

MOUNT HUTT DISTRICT. The monthly meeting of the Mount Hutt Road Board was held yesterday afternoon. There were present: Messrs A. F. Man* (chairman), R. J. S. Wilson, C. A. Campion and J. G. A. Ruddenklau. The clerk reported that wet weather had delayed seyeral works. The crushing plant had been set up, and was operating at Cairnbrae pit. Grading had been carried out on roads in the Lyndhurst area. The Waimarama Road had also been graded for the contractor to shingle. The water-race crossing near Drayton had been badly scoured, and repairs had been, made, 'Permission to plough road frontages was granted to Messrs J. E. Harris, V. E. Mehrtens and C. Chamberlain. The Valuer-General forwarded particulars concerning the rebate of 12£ per cent, on rates due for lands used for farming purposes for the current year.

Transfers from Shearer Brothers to P. Ri. Btivens, A. E. Church to trustees Orr’s Estate, and F. Horsfield to P. O’Reilly were approved.

The Methven Croquet Club wrote drawing attention to the damage done in the playing grounds, and the hoard decided to allow full protection.

THE WAKANUI DISTRICT. The monthly meeting of the Wakanui Road Board was held yesterday afternoon, there being present Messrs F. Frampton (chairman), A. Gregory, A. Bennett, J. Watson and L. Hanrahan. The bank pass-book showed a debit of £B6 8s 9d.

The Valuation Department wrote stating that the special subsidy of 12) per cent, on farm lands under section 20 of the Finance Act would be payable on the current year’s rates. The clerk (Mr J. Bathgate) was authorised to make the necessary application and to make the reduction as the rates were paid. Reports on works showed that maintenance work had been earned out on the Fairfield, Chertsey,. Cochrane’s, Rule’s, and Bridge roads during the month. The board’s day-men were at present replacing three water - race crossings on the Chertsey road and at the intersection of Le Breton’s and Denshire’s roads.

It was decided to carry out about a mile of shingling work on Boundary road.

The stock ranger reported that 12 head: of cattle and one horse had been found .straying on the roads, and the usual charges had been made against the owners.

At the ranger’s request, it was decided to warn a ratepayer whose stock had been allowed to wander too frequently on the roads.
