EIGHT KILLED
A HURRICANE IN FLORIDA. TANKER’S DISTREjSS SIGNALS. (United Press Association— Copyright) MIAMI, November 4. A tropical hurricane with wind velocities of more than 100 miles an hour swept from the Bahamas southwesterly across the lower Florida peninsula to-day, causing a number ot casualties and much property damage here. It is thought possible that the hurricane was more disastrous in t e Florida Keys, but communications from that area are. disrupted. The full force of the 'gale hit Miami Beach and Palm Beach in the middle of the afternoon. It is reported that eight were killed in Miami, most ot them in crumbling buildings and homes. At least 100 were injured. Several coastwise liners were forced to seek shelter. A tanker is in distress and is sending up flares several miles off Miami Beach. Two coastguard cutters are racing through high seas to reach her.
