Laval will make a supreme effort for conciliation. at Geneva, as diplomatic success is essential to the stability of his Government, which is threatened by domestic dangers. The Finance Committee tore M. Laval’s economy programme to shreds and passed amendments to the Budget, reducing the savings at least 50 pei cent. It agreed to special exemptions for small taxpayers, abandonment of certain war pensions and others cuts, which cost the Government at least £40,000,000. M. Laval intends to contest the mendments in Parliament and a good struggle is expected in the next few' weeks.
