GUILTY OF BIGAMY
A WOMAN ON PROBATION. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 21. Malcke Amelia Rubyi Williams, 23 years of age, was admitted to two years’ probation for a bigamy charge. Counsel said tliat she had a deed of separation from her former husband, who had now instituted divorce proceedings. The second man wanted to marry her. The woman herself informed the police.
A SEAMAN SENTENCED. AUCKLAND, October 21. Nine months’ imprisonment with hard labour was the sentence imposed by Mr Justice Callan tin's morning on John James Lawrence Richardson, a seaman, who admitted bigamy. Counsel said that the accused went through' the ceremony out of synirpathy for the woman. His Honor said that, the accused’s desertion of his first wife before coming to New Zealand made a cruel and callous story.
