THE WEATHER
OVERCAST AND COOL TO-DAY. The sky remained overcast to-day, and a fresh wind blew from the southwest this morning. The temperature rose this afternoon, when conditions became a little warmer.
The barometer dropped from 29.94 inches to 29.70 inches in the last 24 hours.
Maximum and minimum temperatures yesterday and last night were 65.4 degrees and 45.6 degrees.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: The re«ent anticyclone is moving away eastward, and an extensive depression is approaching from the Tasman Sea.
The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: —
Moderate but increasing northeasterly winds. Weather unsettled, dull and misty with' rain, some heavy falls being likely. Seas moderate, but rising.,
