DEMOCRAT CANDIDATE WITH DRAWS.
DUNEDIN, October 18. Mr A. Clark, the Democrat candidate for Dunedin Central at the general election, has been compelled to withdraw from the contest through business reasons. INDEPENDENT AT MANAWATU. PALMERSTON N., October 18. Colonel 8. J. E. Closey announces his "‘intention of contesting the Alanawatu seat as an Independent. This brings the number of candidates for this constituency to five. Colonel Closey is an ardent Douglas Credit supporter, who presented the case for the movement before the Pa'liamentary Alonetary Committee,, and spoke for nine hours entirely without notes. He is the author of numerous books on economic topics.
democrat for oroua. WELLINGTON, October 18. Air Ernest Fair, of Feilding, a merchant, will be the Democrat candidate for the Oroua Constituency. He is a former Mayor of Feilding, and is now Deputy-Mayor. He is a twin brothei of Mr Justice Fair.
