CRICKET.
THE ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION. PROSPECTIVE WEST COAST TRIP The management committee of the Ashburton County Cricket Association met last evening, the president (Mr F. Pritchard) presiding. The Marlborough Association wrote inviting Ashburton to send a team to Marlborough this season. Mr R. H. Biggar said he considered that if any trip was to be undertaken the Association was morally bound to visit the West Coast.
Other members agreed that it was difficult enough to select a team to visit the Coast without undertaking any other trip and, in view of the prospective Coast trip, it was decided to reply that the invitation cpilld not be accepted. Details of the. prospective tour in Fiji of a New Zealand seam this season were received, and it was decided to refer the matter to the selector to get into touch with any players who would be available for selection.
The following additional entries were received:—Methven, one senior team; Kia Ora, one senior ; Ashburton, one senior; Coldstream, one junior; Lauriston, one junior; Technical Old Boys, one senior and one junior, subject to the names being approved. There are now six teams in each of the senior and junior grades. The following appointments were made:—Draw, grounds and postponement committee, Messrs It. H. Biggar, J. B. Nicoll, and the secretary (Mr N. J. Hosking); junior selector, Mr It. H. Biggar. The appointment of a senioi selector or selectors was held over until the next meeting.
J. P. Dandie was transferred from the I£ia Ora to the Fairfield Club, and regraded junior, subject to the approval of the Fairfield senior players. A. A. Rowney (Lauriston) was regraded junior, subject to review by the Association at n later date. R. Leonard (Coldstream) was approved as a junioj player.
