SHORTAGE OF FOOD

ADMISSION IN GERMANY.

.SUPPLIES FOR ARMY NEEDED

(United Press Association—Copyright)

BERLIN, October 5. “Germans must temporarily tighten their belts,” said Dr. P. J. Goebbels (Minister for Propaganda), addressing an audience of 150,000 people. The Minister admitted that there were shortages of fats. Emphasising the importance of supplying the army, which absorbed much foreign exchange for raw materials, Dr. Goebbels declared that it was comfprting to know that Germany, was again a world power because of the restoration of her mili tary sovereignty. , . Dr. Goebbels added that obviously the Nazis could not govern the sky, which made the harvests, and could not be blamed if they preferred to accept a fortnight’s butter shortage in order to use the foreign exchange thus saved to assist the unemployed. Fie warned his hearers that supplies of lard and other fats must not be used artificially by panic buying. Moreover, bread, potatoes, beef, veal, mutton, fish, milk eggs, sugar, and many other foods were adequate, although pork was scarce.
