The Banks and Their Depositors At the present time the public has almost £60,000,000 deposited with the six trading banks operating in the Dominion. . Of this large sum, approximately £38,000,000 is on fixed deposit, and £22,000,000 repayable on demand. The deposits are liabilities due by the banks, the corresponding assets being represented by;—* (1) Coin (2) Reserve Bank Notes (3) Balances with Reserve'Bank of N.Z. (4) Liquid funds T fn London available to meet demands of importing customers (5) Securities of the Government of New Zealand (6) Loans to customers in New Zealand ' By their sound management the trading Banks have Justified the confidence of their depositors.
