AN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE.
THE BOMBING OjF ADOWA.
FORTY-FOUR ’PLANES ENGAGED.
LONDON, October 3,
Reports from Addis Ababa state that the following official 1 communique has been issued by the Abyssinian Government :
“War has started. Adowa. and Adigratj in the north of the province of Zigre, have been bombarded. Hundreds have been killed.”
The following telegram, received later afternoon by the SecretaryGeneral of the League from Addis Ababa, has been communicated to the Council and States’ members: — “In continuation of the previous telegram 44 Italian military aeroplanes this morning bombarded Adowa, an open town, dropping tho first bombs on the hospital that bore the Red Cross emblem. A second bombardment was carried out ■at 10 o’clock by two aeroplanes. Up to the present 78 projectiles have been counted.”
