BRITISH PARTY AND SANCTIONS.
MR LANSBURY’S POSITION

The “Daily Mail” says that >Mr George Lansbury has called a meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party for next Tuesday to consider his position as leader, because be opposes military sanctions by the League in the dispute between Italy and Abyssinia, whereas 'Labour is supporting sanctions, including military sanctions if necessary.

The delegates at the Labour Conference sang “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” when Mr Lansbury rose after the luncheon adjournment.
Mr Lansbury said: “It is difficult to stand publicly and repudiate a fundamental policy. I ask the conference to believe that I was never more convinced that I am .right. The Labour movement is making a terrible mistake. I believe that force will never bring peace and goodwill to the world.” The conference will meet next Friday to discuss the, leadership of the party. It is hoped to reach a satisfactory solution.
MR HENDERSON HONOURED.
PRESENTATIONS FROM PARTY. LONDON, September 30. At the opening of the annual conference of the Labour Party at Brighton, a presentation, which took the form of a handsome "illustrated record of his life, was made by proxy to Mr Arthur Henderson in recognition of his long and distinguished services as secretary to the party. It is understood that during the present week a replica of the bust of Mr Henderson by Strobl, now in tlie hall of the League of Nations at Geneva, will be presented to him. In making the presentation. Mr George Lansbury (leader of the party) reported that the condition of Mr Henderson, who isjn a nursing home, was more hopeful, and they could look forward to his returning strong and vigorous to resume work in the party and the bigger sphere of international peace and goodwill.
