MINING DISPUTE
PARTIES TO CONFER TO DAY. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, October 1. In the House of Representatives today, Mr A. M. Samuel (Ind. Thames), asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the threatened strike at' Waihi, he would order a conference of the parties concerned in an endeavour to bring about a settlement of the dispate. and so obviate the suffering, distress and dislocation of business that otherwise would be the inevitable result.
The Hon. Adam Hamilton, in reply, said he had given a good deal of attention to the matter in the last few weeks, and a conference would take 1 place to-morrow at Waihi between representatives of the mining company and the unions concerned. He earnestly hoped that a settlement of the dispute would be reached.
