SPRING BLOOMS

AN EXCELLENT EXHIBITION.

CAVENDISH CLUB DISPLAY

The Ashburton Cavendish Club held its annual spring flower show in its rooms to-day, and visitors were greatly taken byi the very high quality of the blooms on exhibition.

The most effective style of display adopted by the officials of the Club flower shows tends to sef off the blooms to the best advantage, and it is a style that has been adopted in other centres. The use of black crepe paper, with white strips between each exhibit, makes the flowers stand out boldly, and the beholder can more fully appreciate their good points. Though the season has been so backward, the gardens of members appear, from results, to have been given great attention, and the display equalled anything the club has so far promoted. Quality was very high throughout, and the judge (Mr Millichamp) did not find his task an easy one. Those who were awarded prizes were the owners of remarkably fine blooms. The champion bloom award, in the narcissi class, was taken by Mrs J. H. Grigg, for a perfect specimen.

Anemones and hyacinths were a strong class, and there was an exceptional exhibit of polyanthus. In most other flower groups there were very few entries, a fault of the season, but the show generally was well patronised. Mrs R. Holland was convener and Mrs A. Horsey was secretary for the show.
