LYNDHURST. An evening social organised by the Lyndhurst School Committee Avas held in the hall, the proceeds being in aid of the school prize fund. Mr P. Prebble (chairman of the school committee) thanked the social committee and all who had helped to make the entertainment successful. The competitions were won by Mrs 0. W. Symes, Mr D. Rrooker and Mr G. A. Franks. Music for dancing Avas played by Cook’s orchestra, and Mr Prebble Avas master of ceremonies. RAKAIA. A meetings of the drama circle of the Rakaia Women’s Institut ewas held at the home of Mrs CoatsAvorth. Mrs S. Hardy presided. Two plays, entitled “The Lovely Miracle” and* “Women at War,” were read by members of the circle. The hostesses were Mrs A. Shannon and Miss J. Stevenson. Members of the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union and Ladies’ Guild met at the manse to say fareAvell to Mrs Newman, Avho, after living in Rakaia for 17 years, is leaving the district. Items Avere given by Mrs and Miss Ashford. For the members, Mrs Ashford presented Mrs Newman Atith an electric jug. Miss T. Clark also spoke. Afternoon tea Avas served!

The first of a series of Aveekly cards evenings, held under the auspices of the Rakaia health camp committee, was held in St. Mark’s Schoolroom on Tuesday evening. The prizes Avere Avon by Miss 0. Smith and Mr T. S. Shannon. MAYFIELD. A meeting of the Mayfield branch of the Farmers’ Union Avas held in the Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s rooms last evening. Mr G. Johnston presided over a small attendance, owing to the extremely busy season at present. A telegram Avas received from Mr T. D, Burnett, M.P., stating that as a result of the representations of the union the Postmaster-General had sanctioned the erection of a. neAv post office to meet the requirements of the district. It was decided to hold over the debate on exchange v. guaranteed prices and the address by Mr R. Oakley on the activities of the union until next month. Supper was handed round at the close of the meeting. ‘

WILLOWBY. WilloAvby Hall was en fete on the night of Tuesday, the occasion being a ball held under the auspices of the Willow by Miniature Rifle Club. There was a large attendance from far and near. The hall was tastefully decorated Avith multi-coloured streamers. Excellent music Avas supplied by Cook’s orchestra. Extras were played by Mr R. Forde and Mr R. Flatman. In the novelty dance section the lucky spot dance was Avon by Miss I. Stephenson and partner, and the Monte Carlo dance was Avon by Miss Douglas and partner. A dainty supper Avas served by willing, helpers. Messrs D. and T. Mac Kay Avere masters of ceremonies. WATERTON. A farewell afternoon to the Rev. find Mrs Taylor Avas held at the residence of Miss A. Jaine, Longbeach, on Wednesday afternoon. Competitions and community singing were enjoyed. During the afternoon Mrs Muir presented Mrs Taylor with a cup, saucer and plate from members of the Waterton Ladies’ Guild, and Miss Margaret Blee presented Mrs Taylor > with a lady’s spray of friesins. There Avere also present members of the Southern Timvald vestry and their Avives, and on their behalf Mr Blee presented Mr Taylor Avith a monogrammed travelling rug. Mrs H. Griffiths, Miss Dolman and Miss. W. Blee' Avere the competition winners.
