COUNTY SHIELD PERFORMANCES (By “Marker.”) In the Whitcombc and Caldwell Cup competition, held under tho auspices of the New Zealand Miniature Rifle Association, West End (Timaru), Lyttelton and Pleasant Point tied with a score of 745, out of a possible of 750. Fifty-four teams competed. By the use of the graduated gauges, West End was awarded the decision. The score is the highest ever made in this match. Wliat is claimed as a, world record score was made by the Sumner Club in a recent competition match. The score was 559, for eight men, out of the possible 560. A meeting of tho executive of the Ashburton County Small-bore Rifle Association, was held recently, Mr A. J. Millichamp (president) presiding. Mr T. J>. Burnett, M.P, wrote accepting the position of patron. A copy of the rules of tho South Island Miniature Rifle Association was received and left over for discussion at the annual general meeting. Mr T. F. Smith reported on the lust annual meeting of the South Island Association. The secretary read the balance-sheet of the annual championship, which was favourable. It was decided to give a donation to the Ashburton Club for tho use of its range for the occasion. It was decided to open a banking account for the Association funds.
