Their ’plane got out of control west of the railway yesterday morning. They descended by parachute arid landed on the west bank of the Nile, unhurt. The ’plane caught fire and was destroyed, Mrs Campbell. - Black dramatically heard the news at a West End cinema, a special slide being flashed on the screen.
A previous cablegram from London stated: The absence of reports of Mr T. Campbell-Black, who is attempting a record flight to Cape Town, is causing alarm. He passed over Wadi Haifa at 8.25 a.m. yesterday, four hours after leaving Cairo, where he had spent an hour. His petrol supply would carry him on for only nine hours after he passed Wadi Haifa. Mr CampbellBlack, whose co-pilot is Mr McArthur, is flying his new Comet aeroplane, the Boomerang.
SAVED BY WIFE’S PERSUASION.
