ATTEMPT ON RECORDS
ENGLAND TO AUSTRALIA AND RETURN.
MR BROADBENT’S PLANS

An announcement that lie .would make an attempt next month to lower both the solo record from Australia to England and that from England to Australia was made by a young Australian aviator, Mr H. F. Ilroadbenfc, of Sydney, in Auckland on Saturday. “I would very much like to break a week both for the homeward trip and for tho outward 1 trip,” ho said.
The record for the solo attempt from Australia to England, he continued', was at present Hold by Mr H. L. Brook, an Englishman, tho time being 7 days 19 hours. That for the England-Aus-tral i a journey was held by Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, who had covered tho distance in 7 days 5 hours.
The ’plane he proposed to use for the attempt was a Puss Moth. It had a top speed 1 of 150 miles an hour, with a cruising speed of 128 miles an hour. The range of the ’plane was 1500 miles, “I will arrive hack in Sydney on October 5, and will take off on either October 7 or 8,” said l Mr Broadbent.
