BELFAST MURDER
PUBLICAN SHOT IN HOTEL.
FOUR SHOTS FIRED.
SUPPOSED ACT OF REPRISAL
(United Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, September 22. - An unknown man entered a public house in Great George’s Street, Belfast, and fired four shots, killing the publican (John McKiernan), a Cathor lie.
It is believed that the outrage was a reprisal for the shooting of a Protestant at Greencastle the previous night. The assailant escaped.
SEARCH FOR SECRET ARMS. EXCHANGE OF REVOLVER SHOTS (Received This Day, 1.20 p.m.) BELFAST, September 22. .In consequence of the fears of a renewal of terrorism following the murder of McKiernan, the police are combing the city for secret supplies of arms.
Officials of the Ministry of Hoiiie Affairs conferred with the Belfast City Commissioner and Inspector-General of Constabulary, and decided on prompt measures to crush rioting. ,• Large forces of police are held in readiness to rush to danger points. Revolver shots were exchanged in New Dock Street. Two shots were fired from a window of a house elsewhere in Belfast. No one was injured.
