METHVEN.

The monthly meeting of the Methven sub-branch of the Pjunket Society was held on Thursday afternoon in the Society’s rooms. Mrs J. AVootton presided over a good attendance. A letter was received from Mr J. Connolly, M.P., wishing the society continued success and 1 enclosing a donation.. The secretary reported that arrangements for the annual appeal on Thursday, September 2G, were well in hand, A motion of sympathy was passed to Airs John AA atson in the death of her sister.

LOWCLIFFE.

The annual dance of the Lowcliffe Tennis Club was held in the Coldstream Wham recently. The hall was tastefully decorated by the committee with yellow and green streamers and wattle. There was a good attendance ol dancers, who fully enjoyed the night’s dancing to the strains of Airs Mitchell’s band (Ashburton). ISovelty dances were won by Air A. J. Rawstom and Aliss Joy Simmons: Mr F. Ownsworth and Miss E. Redden; Mr V. Chapman and Mrs A. Tioyd. Eixtias were played by Air W. Chapman (piano) and Mr W. Wolfrey (pipes). Air D. Al. Bruce was AI.G.

A most successful ond enjoyable dance was held by the Alitcham-Rokenv Women’s Division of the Farmers Union in Air W. F. Magson’s granary, Somerton. The granary was decorated with' the Division colours, flowering shrubs and greenery. There was a good attendance of members and friends fr-om Timaru, Ashburton, Seafield, Rakaia, Lauriston, Lyndhurst and Barrhill. The president (Mrs % . Wilkinson) thanked those present. Mrs F. Johnson (president of the AlidCanterbury Executive) also spoke. Prizes were won as follow: —Lucky spot, Aliss W. Honeywell and Mr A. Crozier; mystery hike, Aliss D. Alagson and Air A. JJpnaldson; first on tlie floor dance, Aliss Maidens and Air J. Crozier; Mdnte Carlo, Aliss I. Hcod and Mr V. Wilkinson. Airs H. Crothers, jun., played violin sols, and Mr T. Neilin gave a step-dance. The music was supplied by Cook’s orchestra (Lyndhurst), with extras by Aliss B. Rickards. Mr W. AlcPhnil was AI.C.

ANAMA

With tlie object of starting a fund for the building .of a public hall at Anama, the Anama branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers Union held a very sryjcessful dance at the Mount Somers Hall last evening. The function was very well attended, all the surrounding districts being represented. The hall was tastefully decorated with spring flowers and streamers in the Division colours, and a prominent feature was a replica of the Division badgth Music for the dancing was supplied by-Cook’s orchestra, and extras were played by Air G . Robertson. A lucky spot dance was won by Aliss E. Hood and All' AV. Quantoqk, and a. Alonte Carlo by Airs A. Thatcher and Mr J. Hewson. Alessrs F. Hood and A. Brown were M.C.’s. A , dainty supper was served by members of the branch in the library, where the tables were decorated with spring flowers. On behalf of the branch Air Brown thanked those who had assisted in making the function a- success, and Mr A. N. Grigg for haying placed his motor-bus at the disposal of Anama residents who wished to attend.
