TWO YEARS' COMPARISON. $ STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, September 13. Figures showing the improvement in trade that has taken; place during the last two years were given by the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates (Minister for Finance) at the annual smoke concert of the Wellington Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association tonight. The comparison was made between the years 1931-32 and 1933-34, except that the building permits were for 1932-33 and 1931-35, share prices for 1932 and 1934, and the Post Office Savings Bank returns up to the end of these, years:— The figures (all millions) were as follow:

“These figures indicate pretty clearly an improvement in trade,” said Mr Coates, “and the latest figures also suggest that the value of manufactared goods for 1934-35 is likely to be 10 to 15 per cent, higher than foi the previous year, while there are strong hopes that prices for exports will be higher during the forthcoming seahon.”
